First call

Had my first official call yesterday.  I had just gotten back to the station from class and was refilling the SCBA tank when we were dispatched out to a MVC with pin in.  It was definitely exciting, and well,  I learned quite a bit.  All I did was run the hydraulics.

Sorry i haven't posted anything recently.  Hopefully I'll get myself into the habit of checking this weekly.

Question time!

I think I will ask a quick question!  So, in my last post I talked about the extrication training that I did with the fire department, and about the situation.  Now, to all you EMS/FD people, how would you handle that situation.  We weren't able to cut the seat out because our cutters couldn't go through the hardened steel.  We couldn't just slide the patient up the T-post.  So, respond in the comments and give me your ideas!

First week as a EMS/Fire Fighting Newbie!

First week is in the books!

Last tuesday I got to do some extrication training with the department.  It was interesting.  We had a dummy with a t-post impalement through the abdomen that protruded through the windshield and the seat.  Definitely was a challenge to remove the dummy while maintaining c-spine integrity and without moving the t-post around.  Nothing starts a week off better then cutting apart some cars.

Yesterday I had my first day of Fire Academy, and I learned a ton about building construction and fire behavior.

This week I have a physical for the department, and a physical test and drug screen for the county.

So, I guess that is it for today!

I'm a blogging Newbie as well...

This is my second attempt at a blog.  The first failed as I never had the patience or discipline to update it regularly.  I guess i'll start out by talking about myself.

I'm an EMT-B in Montcalm County, Michigan.  Had an interview just last week with the County Emergency Services so I hope to be hearing from them soon.  I'm 19, never have had a job besides working at my dads farm.

I am also starting Fire Academy starting this saturday and am really looking forward to being able to add to my wall of fancy certifications that not everyone can say they have.

As you can tell, I'm a terrible writer.  Maybe it's the fact that I haven't written a paper in a year, or that I'm just nervous.  Whatever it is, I need to man up and get over it.  I don't expect to have anyone read this, I just have heard that it's good to blog in this line of work.

Oh, my hobbies include Photography, reading, and being awkward around women.

So, this ends my first posting...
